The Tecno Boom J8 is a low mid-range smartphone and a successor to the Boom J7 that was earlier released in 2015 by the Chinese based smartphone company, Tecno. Overview Features
Inspired by its trending predecessors the Tecno Boom J5 and Tecno Boom J7, the Tecno Boom J8 still features some of the specs of its predecessors and as would be expected, is coupled with its own improved specs to bring about a better user experience. The Boom J8 features a huge IPS display, more powerful processor, more RAM, better camera resolution and a Boom headset.
Display and Build
The Tecno Boom J8 features a 5.5 Inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 267 PPI. At 5.5 Inch, this device has earned itself a place in the category of smartphone devices tagged, Phablets. With its large display screen, users can expect great wide viewing angles. Usually, the best screen resolution for a phone is 300 PPI, and at 267PPI, the Boom J8 is not so far behind as graphics and pictures will still stand out much more clearly.
For its build, the body of the Boom J8 is made of plastic with metal trimming at the sides. It has a dimension of 153.3 x 76.84 x 7.35 mm and is said to be one of the slimmest android smartphones in the market today. Its slim body with round edges makes the device easy to hold and carry about with little or no discomfort.
Processor and OS
Tecno Boom J8 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and is upgradeable to the latest Android version, Android 6.0 marshmallow. The J8 is powered by a 64-bit Quad-core Cortex-A53 processor running at a processor speed of 1.3 GHz, It has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory storage which is expandable by up to 128 GB using a microSD card. With 2GB of RAM, users of this device can carry out several operations without any noticeable lags or hangs and easily switch between apps and games. The TECNO Boom J8 also comes with TECNO’s customized user Interface called the HiOS, making the device the first to be powered by the software and one of the fastest phones in terms of performance.
Camera
The Tecno Boom J8 features a 13MP and 5MP front camera with led flash light for taking of clear selfies. Features of these cameras also include optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus and HDR and panorama. The Tecno Boom J8s camera has been improved over its predecessor and features similar specs with the cameras on the Tecno Camon C8.
Battery and Connectivity
The battery capacity of the Tecno Boom J8 is 3000mAh and with Tecnos HiOS, this battery provides support for fast charging, normalizing the charging to prevent battery damage and an ultra power-saving mode. Id expected the battery to be atleast 4,000mAh as is the trend these days, but it is said that the Boom J8 can give you as much as 7 days of sleep mode on standby mode. This battery is non-removable and this may be a disadvantage when the device does hang since one cannot easily pull out the battery.
For connectivity, the Boom J8 supports dual SIMs, LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, hotspot, bluetooth v4.0, GPS, NFC and microUSB and comes with acelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensors. The Tecno Boom J8 is accompanied by a Boom headset and as with the Boom J7, a boom sha sha is what youre going to hear.
